How Nardagani Works
26 letters make up our alphabet. 14 of our letters play fair: B, F, H, J, K, L, M, P, Q, R, V, W, X, Z. They only make one sound. The other 12 letters do not play fair; they make more than one sound by themselves, and in combination with others of their 12 (A, C, D, E, G, I, N, O, S, T, U and Y).

Nardagani Rules:
• Whenever you see a letter or a symbol below a letter, make the    sound below.
• All letters, including vowels say their name when alone.
• Whenever a letter is underlined it is silent; it doesn't make a
   sound.
• Practice pages are on the back of each page of the Sound Map.
• The Sound Map pulls apart for easy use.

Here you see all the letters play fair except "N." When you say "needle" the "N" is in the front of your mouth. When you say "pink" the "N" is in the back of your mouth. So, when you see a dot under an "N" you know the sound is in the back of your mouth.

Here are four letters that play fair: P, B, D and T. "TH" does not play fair. Notice how the soft "TH" sound in "teeth" is made by pushing the air out; the symbol is two lines underneath. The hard "TH" sound in "feather" is made with a hum; the symbol is three lines underneath.

Here you learn about the fourth symbol, the square. Because both "Ch" and "T" make the same sound, they get a symbol. Whenever you see a square under a "ch" or a "t" you know they are making the "Ch" sound. The rest of the letters on this sound map play fair. Curiously, "C", "K", and "Q" all make the same sound.

The fifth symbol is "Sh" as in "sheep". The symbol is a simplified version of your finger over your lips, saying, "Shhh." The "Sh" sound can be made 4 different ways: "Sh" as in "sheep", "S" as in "sugar", "T" as in "Education", and "C" as in "social". The "Z" with a line through it is the sound "S" makes in "Asia".

Now we learn about the many sounds of vowels. There are 5 vowels: A, E, I, O and U. Without a symbol, vowels say their name. A, E and I have a short sound, as in "cat", "pet", and "sit," which is symbolized by a "rocker" underneath.
